China Venture Capital and Private Equity Forum was initiated in 1999 by Cheng Siwei, vice-chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress. The forum has been co-hosted by the Central Committee of China Democratic National Construction Association, Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of Guangdong Province and Government of Shenzhen Municipality. The forum is organized by CVCRI, Torch Hi-Tech Industry Development Center of Science and Technology Ministry, Guangdong Science and Technology Department, Guangdong Venture Capital Promotion Association, Shenzhen Bureau of Science, Technology and Information, Shenzhen Venture Capital Co., Ltd. To date, China Venture Capital and Private Equity Forum have been held on twelve occasions. In the spirit of establishing a platform for domestic and international VC/PE practitioners to exchange their viewpoints, the forum has experienced a growth from less than 500 participants to more than 1,500. The forum has developed into an annual gathering with the longest history, the highest international participation, the largest scale and the most influence.

By focusing on new ideas, trends and movements in the field of venture capital, the forum combines discussions on venture capital theories, practical experiences, analysis of real life cases, project road shows, exhibition and high-end scientific and financial talent exchanges. Accordingly, the forum has attracted a number of world renowned experts and scholars and senior government officials.

The forum has become a channel of direct communication between policy-makers and VC/PE practitioners, and a bridge that enables the cooperation between overseas and domestic venture capitalists, entrepreneurs and leaders of financial intermediaries as well as policy-makers.

Furthermore, CVCRI holds regional China Venture Capital and Private Equity Forums. Such forums are held in Shenyang, northeast China, Hefei, central China, Chengdu, western China. Thus providing these underdeveloped areas with a strong impetus to local policy formulation regarding venture capital and economic development.
