¡¡¡¡The Hong Kong Polytechnic University
is a university with a proud and illustrious history. Formerly
known as the Hong Kong Polytechnic, the Institution assumed
full university status in 1994.
¡¡¡¡PolyU is strategically located
in Hung Hom, Kowloon, on a site of approximately 93,500 square
metres adjacent to the Cross Harbour Tunnel. There has been
extensive development and rapid expansion since the last 10
years. The University is the largest UGC-funded tertiary institution
in terms of number of students, with approximately 22,000
full-time and part-time students. A wide range of courses
which directly meets industrial, commercial and community
needs is offered. In addition to meeting Hong Kong's manpower
requirements, PolyU also makes significant contributions towards
the territory's success by providing the public and private
sectors with its expanding range of consultancy, professional
training and applied research services. Through these activities,
the University maintains a strong partnership with the business
and industrial sectors.
¡¡¡¡It is a prime aim of the University to equip students
not only with professional competency but also the ability
of independent thinking, good communication skills and a global
outlook. The University also implements the credit-based system,
which allows flexibility to students in choice of subjects
and pace of studies.
¡¡¡¡The University prides itself on offering a wide range
of courses to meet the demands of the professions. The various
top quality programmes, distinguished by the University's
close ties with key players in Hong Kong's industries, lead
to the awards of Doctoral, Master's and Bachelor's degrees,
as well as Postgraduate Diploma, Post-experience Diploma /
Certificate, Postgraduate Certificate, Higher Diploma, Higher
Certificate, Executive Diploma, Certificate, Professional
and Continuing Education (PCE) Diploma and PCE Certificate.
¡¡¡¡Over the years, more than 200,000
young men and women have graduated from PolyU and its predecessors
- the Hong Kong Polytechnic, the Hong Kong Technical College
and the Government Trade School. The graduates have found
their places in various sectors of the society, dedicating
their knowledge and expertise to the building and development
of Hong Kong's thriving economy.

¡¡¡¡The
China Venture Capital Corporation (CVCC) is a liability company
based on the former China Industry, Commerce, and Economy
Consulting Co., Ltd. And restructured and controlled by the
Central Committee of the China National Democratic Construction
Association (CNDCA) to specialize in venture capital investments.
It was officially founded in March 2000.
¡¡¡¡The
CVCC was reorganized and underwent institutional changes at
a time when the Central Committee of the CNDCA was actively
advocating and promoting the development of China¡¯s venture
capital industry. It finally became a professional company
backed by private funds, which specializes in venture investments.
It is mainly made up of member entrepreneurs of the CNDCA.
Currently, of the seven directors of the board of the CVCC,
one is a member of the Standing Committee of the Chinese People's
Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) and another three
are members of the CPPCC.
¡¡¡¡The
CVCC is mainly engaged in venture capital investments, strategic
investments, fund management, asset management, project evaluations,
financial consultancy, the restructuring of enterprise assets,
and IPO planning and consultancy. The company has adopted
¡°soft promise¡± for shareholders, which means that the shareholders
can promise to commit RMB51 million of registered capital
in the beginning, but when the invested project is needed,
the shareholders should promise to increase their investment
at a rate of 1:10.
¡¡¡¡The
CVCC has mainly invested in high-tech industries, such as
the information industry, the medical and biomedical industries,
new highly efficient approaches to agriculture, new forms
of energy, new materials, and Mechatronis Technology. It has
made investments in companies that are in the seed, start-up,
and growth stages.
¡¡¡¡Backed
by the Central Committee of the CNDCA, which boasts of a strong
background in strategic investment in democratic construction,
the CVCC can draw on local organizations at all levels of
the CNDCA, representing nearly 89,000 CNDCA members in China¡¯s
30 provinces, autonomous regions, and municipalities. As a
result, the company has long had excellent cooperative relations
with outstanding privately run companies around the country.
¡¡¡¡Meanwhile,
the CVCC has built up a good image in the industry. The annual
China Venture Capital Forum has become one of the most reputable
forums in China¡¯s venture capital industry, and has been successfully
held five times. The company has also set up the China Venture
Capital Research Institute, a joint venture with The Hong
Kong Polytechnic University. In the name of the institute,
it has published a professional academic magazine called China
Venture Capital as an outlet for in-depth research on some
theoretical issues concerning venture capital and on cases
of remarkable companies. The magazine is widely influential
among venture capital professionals in mainland China, Hong
Kong, and Macao.
¡¡¡¡Since its establishment,
the CVCC has made investments in several projects involving
a wide range of sectors such as IT, environmental protection,
new materials, and highly efficient agriculture. Some of the
projects have recently been successfully listed in Hong Kong
stock market.
